Dermal Filler: Juvederm®
How It Works
Juvederm is a dermal filler with the consistency of a gel or ointment that are used to replace volume loss in your face. Juvederm is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic is a naturally occurring substance found in our normal skin. Juvederm is FDA approved for 1 to 2 years.
What Problem It Corrects
As we age, we lose volume in our face creating what are called nasolabial folds (folds from the base of your nose to the corner of your mouth) and marionette lines (folds from the corners of your mouth extending down into your chin). Juvederm is injected into these areas to replace the volume that you have lost and thus smooth out these folds.
How It Feels
Juvederm is an injectable fillers, so we do have to use a needle and syringe to place them under the skin. Most people tolerate the placement of these fillers without any local anesthesia; however, there are some patients who prefer to have local anesthesia placed prior to the injections.
How Long It Takes
The injection of either filler into the nasolabial folds and marionette lines takes about 20 minutes.
How Many Sessions Are Recommended
One session is all that it takes to address your concern. We save one syringe of your filler and schedule a follow-up visit in 6 weeks. If there are any areas that you would like touched up, we have that syringe ready and waiting for you.
What To Expect After Treatment
It is not unusual to experience some mild swelling and bruising, but it will not prevent you from performing your normal daily activities. Expect the treated areas to be sore, but you will not require any prescription pain medication. Makeup can be applied the same day or the next day as needed.
